The idea of a book celebrating TPW activities came to my mind more than ten years ago. We started with the right foot: contact the photographers for photos and texts, decide the editorial format, choose the book cover.
Then, as often happens, time was NOT on our side…but we were not in hurry, so we shifted to the twentieth anniversary. Than the twenty-fifth…at the end it was the Covid emergency that made us choose the right date: now!
That’s why we are celebrating an unusual number such as 28!
You will find many different things in the book: an introduction written by Grazia Neri, a long term friend and supporter of TPW; another one by Arno Rafael Minkkinen, the photographer with more presences at TPW. And after a short personal intro, you’ll find double pages dedicated to the photographers, almost 80, that have been teaching at TPW in all these years. There are more but some of them are not with us anymore, others were hard to get in touch… Each one shows a picture shot during their week in Tuscany, and a quote about his/her week there.
To follow, a journal where I tell the story of what has happened in all these years: how TPW was born, our locations, the spirit of our group, the photographers and students and assistants. The world of photography as seen from a small isolated group who met every year on the Tuscan hills.
In the original project this is where the story was supposed to end.
Then I started thinking of all the side projects that were generated from the main one. So I added another session, TPW world. Take a look of our workshop in the rest of Italy and the world…Rome, Venice, Genoa, Naples and of course Sicily. Then India, Romania, Paris, Mississippi, Portugal.
The part dedicated to the master photographers is on special paper 170 gr; the journal is on rough paper of 100gr. The format of the book is the result of a precise choice, something easy to hold and keep it in your bag. For sure not a coffee-table book (but it could be!), more something to browse through and dream about. Texts are in english.
If you have been part of TPW’s world, it will be a jump into the past; for those who only heard about it but never joined, it’s a chance to take a peek into a Totally Perfect World (as TPW has been often called…)
Now you have to judge! We put all our energy, passion and hours of work into it, we’re sorry it’s over! But also very happy!
Thank you for following us.
