Summer Workshop • August 12-18, 2023
Lorenzo Castore will join us for the first time at Villa Lina.
The Emotional Portrait
This workshop has a precise idea and wants to focus on the practice of portraiture and the attitude of being involved in the experience of taking photographs. Given the exceptional nature of the place that hosts us and my desire to try a more specific approach to the work of a weekly workshop, for the first time I have decided to propose that we all work on a defined mode of expression and to do so in an emotional and intuitive manner, seeking a visceral involvement with what we want to express. We will also try to develop this expression through an active attitude, giving directions and taking responsibility. We will not work on the formal aspect as an end in itself but we will try to recognise the initial emotional intention together with our being in that moment and in that place in relation to our state of mind and that of those who are there with us, to the light and space present here and now. All of this must stimulate our ability to transform energy into images through the 1-to-1 relationship with the portrayed subject. The work we will do will be aimed at making us pursue our desire to express something while also giving space to the surprise and unexpected revelations brought about by the encounter.
