ELENA PERLINO

PARIS AT NIGHT

Paris at Night.

You never get tired of visiting – and photographing – Paris.

Our workshop will concentrate on two major aspects:
1) how to plan a photographic project and build up a strong visual story

2) how to raise funds to produce your work (practical examples)

and how to edit for a show, a book or future projects.

We will concentrate mainly on Paris nightlife.

Not that you cannot shoot during the day, of course, but the focus will be from 7 p.m. on. Photographs shot during the day can be complimentary to the night ones.

To tell another story, when the daily working city gives place to the other, with other activities starts. Aperitifs, meeting friends, going to an art gallery. The gym. Then dinner, theatre, cinema followed by other night activities. Ville Lumiere. A change of priorities. Different colours, rumours, scenes. From the heart of the night till dawn, when the game starts again. There are so many different areas of Paris with different offers, from night activities, entertainment in the cosmopolitan quartiers di Belleville, Ménilmontant  or Goutte d’Or to the night life along the Seine, the theatres on the Boulevards , clubs where all kind of music is played all night long. At dawn, food markets such as Pavillon de la Marée a Rungis open their doors to feed the big city, or the private corners f the modern Casanovas, between anonymity and décadence.

Each student will be followed individually, according to personal interests and the projects he/she wants to work on. We will talk about photography a lot, from an aesthetic and practical point of view.

We will meet during the day for general and individual critique and editing.

Due the particular subject, the workshop is limited to 8 students.
