Palazzolo Acreide, Sicily
How to get there
You have different choices.
We suggest you arrive by plane, and then you choose if renting a car for the duration of the workshop (you might not need it, depends on the workshop) or just reach our centre using public transportation.
In this case, you can get a bus at Catania Airport to Siracusa, and in Siracusa change bus for Palazzolo Acreide. As soon as the summer schedule is published we will let you know.
Alternatively, we can organize a shuttle from the airport. If you arrive in the same time frame as others, this will be the best solution, and you can share the cost of the shuttle.
If you like to have your own car with you, you can also consider to drive it to Sicily. In this case, you can take a night ferry in Salerno or Civitavecchia to Catania or drive all the way through. It’s a long ride, but it can be part of your holiday!
When to arrive
You should arrive BETWEEN 4 AND 6 P.M. on SUNDAY: that will give you time to check into your room, relax and be ready for the first meeting at 6 p.m. where you will meet your teacher and fellow students.
When to leave
The one-week workshop ends at noon on Saturday. Except for the students staying for more than one week, all students are required to check out from their room by 10 am.
The TPW Centre will the Museum of the Nobles Traditions, a fantastic old building who has been recently restored to accommodate cultural events.
The town of Palazzolo Acreide is rather small: we will be lodged in rooms spread around the town, in this way we will experience the local daily life. There are not too many hotels there, and we opted for this solution, called Albergo Diffuso (Diffused Hotel): private rooms and apartments, B&B, pensions…very Sicilian!
Every morning you will walk to our centre for breakfast, before starting the day. Lunch and dinner will be also served there.
We will have local chefs cooking for us; coffee and soft drinks are available during the day.
We can accommodate all kind of culinary needs, such as special diets, vegetarian, and vegan.
6 night accommodation in private room, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine and soft drinks available during the day € 690
Please contact us for room pricing.
All of our students and teachers go home with fond memories not only of our landscapes, beautiful colours, friendly people and great experience, but also of our food and wine that freely flows! Meals are an important communal moment of the life at TPW to relax, exchange opinions and ideas with students and teachers of other courses, etc. We always eat together, the meal plan includes all meals from dinner on Sunday to breakfast on the following Saturday. The food is hearty and savoury traditional Sicilian food. It is possible, upon request on enrolment, to have vegetarian and vegan meals. Wine, mineral water and soft drinks are provided free of charge.
We limit our workshops to 14 students per class in order to keep the intimate feeling that our workshops are renown for, and to allow each student to have more individual time with the teacher.
We have no registration deadline but because of the small size of the classes it is better to register as soon as one has decided as the courses tend to get filled up quickly, and in this way you will also be able to choose your room.
For your reservation to be effective you must send a deposit.
You can enrol:
– On-line with our on-line form;
– By phone to make a reservation that has to be followed by the registration form.
To confirm your registration, you can either pay the deposit of Euro 600 or the total amount of the workshop fee. The balance is due 40 days before the beginning of your workshop.
It is possible, and encouraged, to come with a companion, such as members of your family or friends, who will not take active part to the workshop. In that case, their cost will only be for room and board. There is no risk to be bored: your companion can use the week to visit the art cities nearby, take walks or bike rides, go to the beaches, take cooking lessons! Please let us know and we can organize this in advance.
When one of our courses fills up we will open a waiting list for people who want to try to get into the class, if there are any last minute cancellation. You will be entered in the wait list once we receive your enrolment form, but you will not need to send a deposit, we will let you know what number you are on the list and will keep you updated on any openings.
Workshop Cancellation / Refunds
When working with professional photographers it may happen that at the last minute an unalterable assignment forces them to cancel a workshop. Rarely we have to cancel a workshop because we do not reach the minimum number of students to hold that class. In these cases the students can choose either to be fully reimbursed or transferred to another course.
If you decide to cancel for any reason, we will reimburse all fees less Euro 80 for administrative expenses, if you notify your cancellation at least 40 days before the starting date of the workshop. After that time frame you will lose your down payment. There will be no refund of any fee for withdrawing after the workshop has begun.
We are all hoping that 2021 will bring better times, as far as the pandemic is concerned. Most countries are starting the use of vaccines in these days, and together with social distances, by next Summer we will be able to travel and attend the workshop.
Nevertheless, should the workshops be cancelled for Covid related issues, will refund the fee you paid in FULL.
There will be no charge for transferring between workshops, as long as you give us notice at least two weeks in advance of the workshop start date. (No transfers can be made once the workshop has started).
We offer a discount of € 100 if you register for any summer workshop, and pay the full amount, by January 6, 2011.
Should you decide to take two workshops, we can offer 20% off on the second workshop.
What to bring
Photographic equipment you normally use, make sure that it is in perfect working condition. Some classes might need a tripod. A selection of your work for the first meeting with your teacher and the other students is essential. This will be very useful to the instructor in order to evaluate your photographic level and you will be able to see the steps you have made by the end of the workshop.
It is useful to bring a lens cleaning kit, we work in the country and it is a good habit to keep your equipment clean to avoid dust problems.
We suggest that you bring your own laptop.
Note pads, tape recorder if you want to record your classes, are also useful.
We used to give advise on which clothes to bring based on the summer weather, but now the climate is so unpredictable… It is usually quite hot, but windy during the day, and cooler at night, while we have dinner and while we assist at slide shows.
All courses with a few exceptions are held in English. Translation will be guaranteed where needed by the course assistant.
TPW is not liable for personal injuries or equipment damage during the workshop duration. The signing of the enrollment form releases TPW from any liability. TPW is not responsible for reimbursement of travel expenses in case a workshop is cancelled. We recommend that you buy refundable air tickets and/or travel insurance. Please check with your travel agent.
