During its first four years, the Passion & Profession project has brought aspiring photographers into contact with the professional world of photography. Although many people are attracted to becoming professional photographers, they often don’t know in which direction to take their first steps.
Passion & Profession is the ideal place to get in contact with the world of professional photography, in two different ways:
1) by meeting experts, who will examine your work and will suggest the best route to follow, how to do it, and also provide creative judgments on your existing work in progress
2) by showing your work and projects to photo-editors from various magazines, who might be interested in publishing it. This has happened in the past reviews
Passion & Profession is aimed at photographers as well as everyone interested in working in the photographic industry as photo-editors, in post-production, as curators and art-directors.
During three days there will be more than 200 sessions with different experts, to review your portfolios, talk about job opportunities, and future developments for your career. Each session will last 30 minutes and will be held individually. You can register on line and choose the experts you want to meet with.
Our portfolio reviews provide the perfect opportunity to find your way within the photographic world.
The Passion & Profession Porftolio reviews will provide you with many benefits:
• by making a small investment (registration and room and board for 2/3 days) you will be able to understand immediately what the market has to offer you.
• rather than trying to fix appointments with different experts across Europe, from Milan to London to Paris (which might turn out as extremely frustrating!) you will be able to meet all the people you need to meet in one place, as well as other like minded people as you.
• think of the time and money you save!
I am certain that investments in career development are as important as investing in new equipment.
In addition to your individual portfolio reviews, there will also be, during Passion & Profession 2012, several 2 hours seminars on different topics with different experts (photographers, photo-editors, post-production managers, e-magazines editors) who will speak about their experience. There will also be several mini-workshops on more technical aspects of photography.
We are also planning a Passion & Profession Open Night, an evening with slide shows and open portfolio reviews in an informal setting. You will have the possibility to meet and exchange opinions with professional photographers, the experts and the other participants.
Once again, far from the day to day stress of our cities, it will be possible to concentrate solely on photography and your future career. This is, after all, what TPW has been doing for 20 years…

La lista completa degli esperti sarà pubblicata a Primavera.
Il progetto Passion & Profession ha portato, nelle sue prime 4 edizioni, aspiranti fotografi a contatto con il mondo professionale della fotografia.
Quella del fotografo è una professione che attira molte persone, ma spesso non si sa in quale direzione muovere i primi passi.
Questi incontri di letture di portfolio rappresentano il momento ideale per entrare in contatto con il mondo della fotografia professionale, e offrono due possibilità:
1) incontrare esperti del settore che possono indicarci come affrontare il mondo della professione e le “regole” per farlo, e fornirvi un aiuto creativo per i vostri progetti fotografici in via di definizione.
2) potere mostrare i nostri progetti fotografici a photo editor di importanti testate, che possono a loro volta essere interessati a pubblicare il vostro lavoro, come già è successo in passato.
Gli incontri sono dedicati ai fotografi, ma anche a tutti coloro che sono interessati a lavorare nel mondo della fotografia come photo-editor, tecnico di post-produzione, curatori, art-director di mostre e agenzie.
Le letture di portfolio sono l’occasione ideale per verificare in tempi brevi come muoversi in questo mondo, dove non esistono percorsi predefiniti.
Pensate ai vantaggi di frequentare Passion & Profession:
• con un investimento contenuto (iscrizioni alle letture di portfolio e soggiorno per i 2/3 giorni di Passion & Profession ) potete capire subito quali prospettive sono disponibili
• pensate che invece di fissare appuntamenti, e muovervi tra i centri dell’editoria europea, Milano Parigi e Londra (il che può essere molto frustrante!) potete trovare gli esperti di cui avete bisogno concentrati in un unico luogo, insieme ad altre persone come voi e con le vostre aspettative
• pensate infine al tempo e denaro risparmiato.
Personalmente, penso che un investimento in questo senso sia valido come quello sull’acquisto dell’attrezzatura…
Nei prossimi mesi vi daremo informazioni sulla location, sugli esperti che interverranno, su come prenotare le sessioni on-line
Nell’ambito di P&P 2012, oltre alle letture portfolio individuali, della durata di 30 minuti ciascuna, si terranno inoltre seminari di due ore, su diversi aspetti legati alla fotografia professionale e non, alcuni mini-workshop su aspetti più tecnici; stiamo anche organizzando una P&P Open Night, un momento da passare insieme: proiezioni, incontri informali, consigli, scambi di idee, contatti professionali….
Ancora una volta, lontano dallo stress della routine nelle nostre città, ci sarà modo di vivere la fotografia in modo intenso, di concentrarsi unicamente sul nostro interesse e future carriere. Quello che, dopotutto, il TPW fa da quasi 20 anni…
