Albertina d’Urso “Out of Tibet”

Albertina d’Urso was born in Milan, Italy, in 1976.

After being a competition skier, Albertina d'Urso has been working for many years as a model in the Elite worldwide network, spending most of her life travelling. She lived between various cities of the world (London, Madrid, Barcelona, New York, Miami, Athens, Hamburg, Tokyo, Sidney, Cape Town, Tel Aviv, Santiago) and so she had the opportunity to see and know the natural beauty and the different cultures of many countries.

Her interest in photography came out during those years using her camera to shoot the places where she happened to be and also doing, on her own initiative, natural and social reportages in several corners of the world, mainly Asia, Africa and South America.

In 2002 she became a professional photographer.
Across 2003 and 2004 she completed her first long term project, “Bombayslum”, a touching work about people living in the suburbs of Mumbay that gave life to a book, published by Skirà, and an exhibition at “Libreria degli Atellani” in Milan.
In 2005 she received 3 honorable mentions at the International Photography Awards, worked in the backstage of the international photographer Fabrizio Ferri, participeted to the traveling exhibition 13x17-www.padiglioneitalia and had her first experiences as a director of photography.

2006 is instead the year of her second personal exhibition: "Life Zoom", a show entirely dedicated to close-up of trunks of trees printed like paintings on cloth and published on a catalog by Skirà. It took place in the beautiful "scuderie di Palazzo Ruspoli" in Rome, in "Bookshop & Caffetteria degli Atellani", in Milan and "La Tessitura-Concept Store" in Como. To remark also the participation to the "Kabul mission of the municipality of Milan", a work aimed at showing the consequences of the war in Afghanistan and the efforts of the mission ISAF 8 and the Italian NGOs to restore the situation, culminated with the "Milano-Kabul no stop"exhibition in the "Ottagono", in Arcade Vittorio Emanuele. Thanks to hers pictures made in Afghanistan she recived others 2 honorable mentions at the International Photography Awards.

During those years she also realized several advertisement works and partecipated to different photographic auctions. Her pictures are regularly published on italian and international books, magazines and websites.

In the manewhile she is involved in others personal projects, including, "Out of Tibet", a close look to the tibetan refugees who crossed the Himalayan range and estabilished themselfes in India and Nepal, to escape from chinese repression and defend their cultural and religious identity. She is photographing tham since 2004, choosing every year a different area to cover.
