The pace of the week varies tremendously according to each workshop as we leave great freedom to our teachers in their lectures, shooting and editing schedule: nonetheless there are some fixed appointments that recur.

Friday
- 9.00 p.m. Dinner and slideshow of the students’ work of the week, followed by Final Party.

Saturday
- Morning: last meeting with the teachers to review some last theoretical and practical points, discuss and suggest possible future professional projects. The workshop is over at noon to allow the staff to get everything ready for the following week.
- 10 a.m. check out from your room.

Il ritmo della settimana varia profondamente a seconda  dei corsi, ogni nostro insegnante ha ampia libertà di organizzare la tempistica del proprio workshop a seconda delle proprie esigenze didattiche; rimangono in ogni caso alcuni appuntamenti fissi:

Sabato mattina
- Ultimo incontro con gli insegnanti per trarre le conclusioni sul workshop, affrontare ulteriori aspetti teorici e pratici, discutere di prospettive professionali e suggerire eventuali progetti futuri. Il workshop termina alle ore 12, per permettere allo staff di riorganizzare gli spazi e le strutture per la settimana successiva.

It is suggested, when possible, to come by car. TRAIN
The closest station is Chiusi, on the line Milan/Naples. From there, we can arrange a free pick up service on Sunday afternoon. If you arrive at a different time, the taxi cost is  around € 50. For train schedules, please consult the website www.trenitalia.com.

CAR
For those driving from North, the exit is Firenze Certosa on A1, then take highway Firenze- Rome and exit at VAL DI CHIANA
Take direction to Siena – Pienza. Pass Pienza (2 KM direction San Quirico) and you will find a white road on your right, leading to Sant’Anna in Camprena (brown sign). After 4,5 km. you will find the enterance to the Monastery on your left, a road with cypress trees on both sides. There is a parking space where you can leave the car, walk down the alley and you will find the main door on your left.

From South, exit Chiusi, following the direction Chianciano – Montepuciano – Pienza - Siena - and then as above.

PLANE
The closest and most practical airport is the one of Florence. From there you can easily reach the train station by bus and then follow the train itinerary (see above). We are about 90 minutes away from the airport.
You can also take a taxi from the airport, or order a car service. Car service is around € 150, taxi can be more expensive.

TRENO

AUTO
Da Nord, A1 direzione Roma uscire a VA DI CHIANA e seguire per Siena-Pienza. Passata Pienza, dopo 2 km in direzione San Quirico, troverete una strada sulla vostra destra, un cartello marrone con Sant’Anna in Camprena. Dopo 4,5 km, troverete a sinistra il viale alberato che porta al Monastero. Parcheggiate nell’apposito parcheggio e camminate fino all’ingresso del Monastero. Saremo lì ad aspettarvi!

Da Sud, uscita Chiusi e direzione Chianciano - Montepulciano - Pienza – Siena poi indicazioni come sopra.

AEREO
L’aeroporto più vicino e pratico è quello di Firenze. Da lì si può raggiungere la stazione ferroviaria tramite bus, e poi seguire l’itinerario TRENO come sopra. Siamo distanti circa un’ora e mezzo dall’aeroporto.

E’ anche possibile prenotare una vettura per venire direttamente a San Quirico, il costo è di circa €150. Il taxi è più caro.

L’orario d’arrivo è compreso tra le 16.00 e le 18.00 di domenica, per dare il tempo agli studenti di sistemarsi nelle proprie stanze, rilassarsi ed essere pronti per l’incontro delle 18.00 con l’insegnante e gli studenti del proprio corso.

The one-week workshops end at noon on Saturday.Except for the students staying for more than one week, all students are required to check out from their room by 10 am.

I workshop finiscono a mezzogiorno del sabato. Gli studenti devono liberare le stanze entro le 10, ad eccezione naturalmente degli studenti che si fermano per più settimane.

Our new center is the Monastery of Sant’Anna in Camprena. It was build in the 14th century, and became famous 10 years ago where most of the scenes of the oscar award winner film “The English Patient” were shot.

It is an amazing building, with room to accomodate most of the students, teachers and TPW’s team. Rooms are very simple, some with shared bathrooms and some with private bathroom.

At the moment of enrollment you have to tell us which kind of accomodation you would prefer. Rooms will be assigned to the first ones to enrol. In case you prefer independent hotel accomodation in Pienza or San Quirico or Montepulciano, within 15/20 minutes, please let us know and we can either give you a list of places to stay or you can book through us. For those students that are going to stay for two weeks or more, the night between the workshops is included in the tuition.

Il nuovo centro del TPW è  il Monastero di Sant’Anna in Camprena. Risale al XIV secolo ed è diventato famoso anni fa perché è stata la location principale del film “Il Paziente Inglese”, vincitore di 9 premi Oscar!

E’ un luogo magico, con spazio a sufficienza per studenti, insegnanti e staff TPW. Le camere sono molto semplici, ricavate dalle celle dei monaci. Alcune sono senza bagno, ma ci sono moderni bagni in comune ogni 3 stanze. Altre hanno bagno privato.

Al momento dell’iscrizione dovrete specificare quale tipo di sistemazione gradite. Le camere saranno assegnate a chi si iscrive per primo. Nel caso preferiate una sistemazione di tipo alberghiero a Pienza, San Quirico o Montepulciano, fatecelo sapere e possiamo provvedere alla prenotazione per voi o fornirvi una lista di alberghi.

Per gli studenti che rimangono due o più settimane, il pernottamento del sabato sera presso Il Monastero è compreso nella quota del corso.

All of our students and teachers go home with fond memories not only of our landscapes, beautiful colours, friendly people and great experience, but also of our food and wine that freely flows! Meals are an important communal moment of the life at TPW to relax, exchange opinions and ideas with students and teachers of other courses, etc. We always eat together, the meal plan includes all meals from dinner on Sunday to breakfast on the following Saturday. The food is hearty and savoury traditional Tuscan country food. It is possible, upon request on enrolment, to have vegetarian meals. Wine and mineral water are provided free of charge. For those staying for more than one week, Saturday’s lunch and dinner are not included in the meal plan. Sunday brakfast is included.

I nostri studenti e gli insegnanti tornano a casa con ricordi non solo dei nostri paesaggi, dei meravigliosi colori, della cordialità della gente e dell’intensa esperienza, ma anche del nostro cibo e del vino che viene offerto durante i pasti!I pasti sono un momento molto importante nella vita del TPW, per rilassarsi, scambiare opinioni con studenti di corsi diversi, parlare con altri insegnanti, ecc. I pasti sono tutti in comune e comprendono dalla cena della domenica alla prima colazione del sabato. La cucina è quella tradizionale toscana. E’ possibile, su richiesta, seguire un regime vegetariano. Vino, acqua minerale e altre bevande sono gratuiti. Per chi si ferma due o più settimane, il pranzo e la cena del sabato non sono compresi. La  prima colazione è compresa.

During the workshops almost all the students are using digital, but if somebody prefer to use film, these are the lab costs. Still, we strongly encourage participants to use digital: film processing takes longer and is not possible to have B&W film processed. These you will pay at the end of the week.

We will not charge digital lab fee to those students who are technically self-sufficient, who bring with them everything needed for digital editing (cards and card-readers, laptop, software, blank CDs and DVDs)

For those who prefer to use our facilities, the fee is € 50, including 5 CD; 1 DVD; 8 digital prints A5 format and assistance.

Durante i workshop la maggior parte degli studenti usa il digitale, ma, se qualcuno preferisce usare pellicole, questi sono i costi per lo sviluppo. Noi incoraggiamo fortemente i nostri studenti ad usare il digitale: per lo sviluppo dei rullini occorre più tempo e non possiamo svilupparie rulli B/N. Questi costi saranno saldati alla fine della settimana.

Non ci sarà alcun costo per gli studenti che sono tecnicamente autosufficienti e che portano con se quello che serve per lavorare in digitale (computer, schede di memoria e relativi lettori, software, Cd e DVD)

Per gli studenti che preferiscono utilizzare il nostro laboratorio digitale, c’è una tariffa di € 50, che include 5CD, 1DVD, 8 stampe digitali formato A5 e l’assistenza del nostro tecnico.

There is no Internet connection at the Monastery, but you can find Internet Cafè in Pienza and Montepulciano.

We limit our workshops to 14 students per class in order to keep the intimate feeling that our workshops are renown for, and to allow each student to have more individual time with the teacher. Workshops taught by two instructors can be larger in which case it is specified in the course description.

We have no registration deadline but because of the small size of the classes it is better to register as soon as one has decided as the courses tend to get filled up quickly. For your reservation to be effective you must send a deposit of Euro 400 for each workshop as down payment.

You can enrol:

• By phone to make a reservation that has to be followed by the registration form.

When one of our courses fills up we will open a waiting list for people who want to try to get into the class, if there are any last minute cancellation. You will be entered in the wait list once we receive your enrolment form, but you will not need to send a deposit, we will let you know what number you are on the list and will keep you updated on any openings.

Quando uno dei nostri corsi si riempie viene aperta una lista d’attesa per chi desidera entrare nella classe nel momento in cui ci siano delle disdette. Per accedere ad una lista d’attesa è necessario inviare il modulo d’iscrizione, senza dovere inviare l’anticipo. Noi vi faremo sapere qual è il vostro numero nella lista e sarete informati di eventuali cancellazioni.

To confirm your registration, you can either pay the deposit of Euro 400 or the total amount. The balance is due 40 days before the beginning of your workshop.

When working with professional photographers it can happen that at the last minute an unalterable assignment forces them to cancel a workshop. Rarely we have to cancel a workshop because we do not reach the minimum number of students to hold that class. In these cases the students can choose either to be fully reimbursed or transferred to another course.
If you decide to cancel for any reason, we will reimburse all fees less Euro 80 for administrative expenses, if you notify your cancellation at least 40 days before the starting date of the workshop. After that time frame you will lose your down payment. There will be no refund of any fee for withdrawing after the workshop has begun.

TPW is not responsible for reimbursement of travel expenses in case a workshop is cancelled. We recommend that you buy refundable air tickets and/or travel insurance. Please check with your travel agent.

Lavorando con fotografi professionisti, può capitare che all’ultimo momento un impegno di lavoro improvviso li costringa a rinunciare al workshop. Raramente ci troviamo costretti a cancellare un workshop perché non è stato raggiunto un numero minimo di iscritti.
In questi casi, lo studente potrà scegliere di essere interamente rimborsato o di inserirsi in un altro corso. Se decidete di cancellare la vostra iscrizione, per qualunque motivo, dandone comunicazione almeno 40 giorni prima dell’inizio del workshop, vi sarà rimborsato l’importo versato dedotte Euro 80 per spese amministrative. Non si effettua alcun rimborso a workshop iniziato.

Il TPW non è responsabile per il rimborso di spese di viaggio nel caso un workshop sia cancellato. Consigliamo vivamente di acquistare biglietti aerei rimborsabili e/o assicurazione sul viaggio.

There will be no charge for transferring between workshops, as long as TPW is notified at least two weeks in advance of the workshop start date. (No transfers can be made once the workshop has started).

Non ci saranno spese aggiuntive per chi desidera cambiare corso, se sarà comunicato al TPW con almeno due settimane di anticipo prima dell’inizio del workshop e compatibilmente con le disponibilità nel nuovo corso di destinazione. Nessun cambiamento sarà accettato a workshop iniziato.

We offer two types of discounts: TPW alumni can benefit of a 5% discount, students taking more than one workshop during the same year will have a 10% discount on the second workshop.
All discounts are applied on the tuition cost only.

Photographic equipment you normally use, make sure that it is in perfect working condition (there are no nearby camera repair shops), some classes might need a tripod or a handheld light meter. A selection of your work for the first meeting with your teacher and the other students is essential. This will be very useful to the instructor in order to evaluate your photographic level and so that you will be able to see the steps you have made by the end of the workshop.

L’attrezzatura fotografica personale completa e in buono stato (se avete dubbi sul buon funzionamento della vostra macchina fotografica, consigliamo di farla controllare prima di partire), alcuni corsi necessitano un cavalletto ed un esposimetro con funzioni sia per il flash che per luce naturale. E’ essenziale che portiate una selezione del vostro lavoro per il primo incontro con gli insegnanti e gli altri studenti; serve agli insegnanti per valutare il vostro livello fotografico, a voi per riuscire a vedere i vostri progressi alla fine del workshop.

IMPORTANT
• It is useful to bring a lens cleaning kit, we work in the country and it is a good habit to keep your equipment clean to avoid dust problems.
• Note pads, tape recorder if you want to record your classes, are also useful.
• We suggest that you bring your own laptop: you will have the independence to work on your files without having to wait for our computers to be available, and at the same time you will have the possibility to connect to our scanners and printers.

We used to give advise on which clothes to bring based on the summer weather, but now the climate is so unpredictable... It is usually quite hot, but windy during the day, and cooler at night, while we have dinner and while we assist at slide shows.

IMPORTANTE
• È utile avere con sé materiale per pulire la propria attrezzatura dalla polvere! (la grande nemica del fotografo!).
• Quaderno per gli appunti, c’è anche chi porta un registratore per potersi riascoltare le lezioni.
• Suggeriamo di portare con sé il proprio computer portatile: questo vi darà la possibilità di gestire i vostri files indipendentemente.

L’ambiente è informale. Consigliamo vestiti comodi e pratici. Specialmente per quanto riguarda le calzature.

Di solito davamo indicazioni su come attrezzarsi per la calda estate toscana, ma negli ultimi anni abbiamo avuto un clima così imprevedibile! Difficile dare consigli. In linea di massima è mediamente caldo ma ventilato (siamo a 400 m) durante il giorno, e più fresco durante la sera, quando ceniamo all’aperto e assistiamo a slide-show.

All courses with a few exceptions are held in English. Translation will be guaranteed where needed by the course assistant.

Tutti i corsi, con rare eccezioni, sono tenuti in inglese. Fanno eccezione i corsi tenuti da insegnanti di madre lingua italiana. Non allarmatevi sarà presente un assistente/interprete per ogni corso.

TPW is not liable for personal injuries or equipment damage during the workshop duration. The signing of the enrolment form releases TPW from any liability. TPW is not responsible for reimbursement of travel expenses in case a workshop is cancelled. We recommend that you buy refundable air tickets and/or travel insurance. Please check with your travel agent.

It is possible, and encouraged, to come with a companion, such as members of your family or friends, who will not take active part to the workshop. In that case, their cost will only be for room and board. There is no risk to be bored: your companion can use the week to visit the art cities nearby, or take walks or bike rides, tennis, swimming or horse riding.

The rhythm of the week is slightly different from the one in Tuscany. What does not change is TPW’s creative atmosphere, and last night show!
One general recommendation: our on Location workshop take place in different area of Europe or other aresa of the World: we cannot bring to you the solid structure that we have build through the years in Tuscany. Please consider that it will be much easier to work with digital, in order to have your work ready for critique, and to be flexible about the daily schedule.

Una raccomandazione generale: I nostri workshop on Location si tengono in differenti parti d’Europa e del Mondo: non possiamo portarvi la solida struttura che abbiamo costruito in questi anni in Toscana. Per favore, tenete anche conto che sarebbe molto meglio lavorare in digitale, per avere il lavoro pronto per la critica giornaliera e per essere anche più flessibili rispetto all’andamento della giornata.
